Tomorrow's Debate

Is anyone else as excited as I am about tomorrow’s debate? I think it will totally be a toss up. Bush isn't strong on domestic policy and may try to trump Kerry by focusing on divisive social issues rather than bread and butter economic issues. Bush will try to attack Kerry on spending (and Elephant will laugh at his audacity) and gay marriage and abortion. I don't think there's much traction for Bush on any of these issues in terms of the half dozen or so undecided voters left in the country. Kerry's goal should remain focused on presenting himself as a credible alternative to Bush. If he does that, and doesn't slip into arrogance, then we're set for a competitive election. I'm still convinced that Bush needs to remind us of why we are in Iraq and offer up something, anything to make up for the lack of WMD found there. This is his Achilles’ heel.

Of course no one really knows what will be "the" issue for voters in this election. (If you can boil it down to an issue). If the election is a referendum on Iraq, Bush looses. If it is on the economy, Bush looses. If it is on terrorism and security Bush wins. The problem is that like Elephant, I think most voters are trying to weigh these big issues and come to a conclusion on the best man for the job. If the last few debates are the measure, I wouldn't expect any new fireworks. Bush-Wrong War, Wrong Place, Wrong Time!, Kerry - We Can Do Better! I Have a Plan.

Isn't it fun that the party operatives and media talking heads have about as much idea on the outcome of the election as you and I?!
