Drafting the Lawyers
For political operatives in DC, election season is a great time to get a free 'vacation'. Republican and Democratic staffers, lobbyists and attorneys take time off from work to volunteer for various national campaigns in tight races across the country. Elephant's gotten hit up several times to do legal work for the GOP in various swing states for the election. Fortunately a heavy work travel schedule will keep me away. Even Midgie and Donkey were signed up to go help get out the vote for Dachsle in South Dakota, but both abandoned the effort due to a highly unorganized effort and poor communication.
Anyway, my understanding is that both BC'04 and KE'04 have seeded the country with tens of thousands of lawyers. They'll be ready at a moments notice to contest ballots, processes, and other voting 'irregularities'. The New Republic has a great piece on how 2004 could force the courts to revisit Bush v. Gore and deal with issues they thought would not come back to haunt them.
