I Heart Sri Lanka
Thanks to Everyone!
If Bill Gates house burned down, I wouldn't really expect the folks of Seattle to take up a collection to help him rebuild. Since the United States is kind of the Bill Gates of the World, I wouldn't expect other countries to feel compelled to offer us a helping hand in the face of the disaster we just had. We offer help to the world because we can afford it and it's in our nature as Americans to step up to the challenge, despite the tendency of our goverment to be pushy to the rest of the world from time to time.
That's why I was struck this week when countires from France (who used to own New Orleans), Venezuela, Saudi Arabia, and even Sri Lanka stepped up to help out. Thanks! we may or may not need financial help, but your willingness to step up to the plate is comforting and means so much to all of us.
"Offers have been received from Russia, Japan, Canada, France, Honduras, Germany, Venezuela, Jamaica, Australia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Greece, Hungary, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico, China, South Korea, Israel, the United Arab Emirates, NATO and the Organization of American States, the spokesman said"
