Gasp! Panic!

Some Republicans Debate Stance on Taxes

Yup, it's looking increasingly like Senator Lindsey (that's a girl's name) Graham's proposal to fix social security by raising the tax cap (currently only the first $90,000 of income is taxed for SSI) is the consensus for fixing the funding problem. Probably the best bet. It will be interesting to see how much my taxes will go up and if there will be a concurrent cut in my future benefits.

Comments:
I can't imagine that Bush would sign a bill that did nothing but raise the amount on which SSI taxes are calculated, but if including that would bring enough Dems over to supporting private accounts, he might.

Thanks for the comment Don. The Dems are pretty much irrelevant to the debate unless they filabuster. Even then there's a chance that Frist could repeal the filabuster rule (as he's talked about so much). The suprising thing is that the geneis of these proposals are Republicans...and not Rhino Republicans at that.

But then, the last four years the party really hasn't cared about spending or shriking government. As evidenced by the lack of any veto by our current leader.

Anyway, thanks for the feedback!
