The 1970's All Over Again
High Gas Prices, Flat Stock Market, Donald Rumsfeld
Boy, aren't the 00's tuning out to be a lot like the 1970s? I mean high oil prices, turmoil in the Middles East, a flat stock market and Donald Rumsfeld ensconced in the Defense Department. I've said it before and I'll say it again, the GOP had a historic opportunity to reshape government to prepare for the many fiscal and social challenges that are fast approaching. Starting with a large budget surplus we could have tackled Social Security reform, curbed other government spending and set our country on a course to handle the massive financial burden of the fast approaching retirement of the Baby Boomers. But they blew it. Now regardless of who's elected, the next four years will be filled with even tougher choices.
